After 3 decades in the city center of Tienen, Suikerrock had big news at the end of 2021: the festival will remain in Tienen but will move to Raffinerie Tirlemontoise in 2022. Our Bietenplein will form the unique backdrop for this four-day festival from Thursday 28 July to Sunday 31 July!
Due to the COVID pandemic, the announced 2020 edition could not take place and was postponed to 2021. But Suikerrock could not take place in 2021 either, again because of the pandemic, but also because of the redevelopment of the Tiense Grote Markt.
As a COVID alternative, a very successful experiment was launched in September 2021 in the form of The Factory of Sweetness, which took place very appropriately at Raffinerie Tirlemontoise.
Reactions were positive and it also showed the advantages of a closed terrain. In terms of atmosphere, safety and logistics, the pieces of the puzzle fell into place.
Bietenplein
While The Factory of Sweetness took place at the front of Raffinerie Tirlemontoise, Suikerrock 2022 will take place at the Bietenplein at the rear of the factory. The site has a surface area of no less than five times the Grote Markt of Tienen, and thus allows us to comfortably accommodate our visitors.
The Bietenplein also has a wide access road that connects to the Southern/Eastern Ring, along which hundreds of trucks deliver their harvest every year during the beet campaign. The site is also perfectly accessible by bike via the cycling junction network (junction 62).
Suikerrock 2022
The tried and tested Suikerrock recipe that has been around for 35 years will of course be retained: a main stage with national and international top acts and a programme that has something to offer for every festival-goer. The Foodcorner and the DJ Stage will also be present, and will now finally get the space they deserve.
A nice new feature due to the extra space on the Bietenplein are the attractions. For example, there will definitely be a spectacular Ferris wheel of no less than 32m high that will offer a beautiful view of the factory and city skyline!
