Goele Basteyns, HR Officer @ Sugar plant in Tienen
When did your adventure start at Raffinerie Tirlemontoise?
In 2012 I saw a vacancy for HR Officer at the Sugar plant in Tienen on the Raffinerie Tirlemontoise website. It was just the job for me, so I applied immediately. I was delighted to be accepted. I’ve been there ever since as the first port of call concerning HR for staff working at the Sugar plant in Tienen.
What does your working day look like?
Unpredictable. Every day is different and very varied. Of course, a number of tasks are fixed but there’s always something coming up to change my planning. This makes the job really interesting. My work includes doing the wages, recruitment and selection of new staff for the Sugar plant, general administration, supporting factory staff and I am also a counsellor. So there are lots of jobs, but I love them all.
How would you describe the atmosphere at Raffinerie Tirlemontoise?
There’s a really positive atmosphere. You have the space to do your job in your own way, to develop and to work autonomously. I have great colleagues, both in the Sugar plant and in the administrative departments. We all work hard, but we laugh lots too. I always come to work with pleasure and with a smile.
How do you feel about your job and life at Raffinerie Tirlemontoise?
The biggest bonus is the variation and having lots of contact with both colleagues and people outside the company. It’s a really rewarding job.
Which is your favourite sugar of Tirlemont?
That’s a tough one to answer. However I do have a soft spot for our one and only Graeffe Brown Sugar, with its special soft texture and unique flavour. I also enjoy a Liège waffle with our wonderful Pearl sugar once in a while.
