When did your adventure at Raffinerie Tirlemontoise start?
I started in late August 2013 in the Customer Service and Logistics Department in Brussels. When I arrived, my manager had prepared a schedule so I could meet with everyone in the Brussels offices. Within a few weeks, I was invited to participate in the T-Connect programme organised by Human Resources, which allowed me to visit the different Raffinerie Tirlemontoise factories during the sugar beet campaign! In so doing, I quickly gained a good overview of how the company works.
What does your typical working day look like?
The first thing to do is read my e-mails over a cup of tea. I handle orders of bags on pallets from industrial clients and wholesalers in the Benelux countries. But that’s not all because I also deal with exports to Asia and the Middle East. That’s what I like most because it requires tracking and planning: it’s about coordinating the dispatch of goods with the plant, the carrier, the customs office, shipping companies, etc., and of course the client. It requires not only receiving their goods on time, but also drawing up the necessary import documents. I get the opportunity to speak to the company’s other departments and external partners. There is often other work to do, such as updating client data and specific tasks, which adds variety to what I do.
How would you describe the atmosphere at Raffinerie Tirlemontoise?
Really nice.The atmosphere in our department is particularly great: everyone has their own character, but also a sense of humor and a team spirit. We frequently help each other out.
What do you think of your job and life at Raffinerie Tirlemontoise?
Great! The job is varied and my colleagues are always willing to help. Together, we seek the best solutions. It is an ideal mix that keeps me motivated.
Which is your favourite sugar of Tirlemont?
on crêpes and in yoghurts, and icing sugar
for sprinkling on strawberries.
