A few figures
On an annual basis the Raffinerie Tirlemontoise produces a quotum of 486,235 tons of beet sugar, 10 % of which is destined for the retail market, 90 % for the industrial market. However, we sell about 500 to 600,000 tons of sugar a year. As we can only sell the quotum of 486,235 tons of sugar per year within the European Union, we export our sugar surplus (‘out-of-quota’) outside the EU or it is used for non-food applications in Belgium and Europe (pharmaceutical companies, bioethanol producers, etc.).

Candico’s sugar cane products are only intended for the retail market. On an annual basis we sell around 6,000 tonnes of these.
